That white colored chemical that holds the tiles together is called grout. Since it is a lot like cement it is porous and attracts dirt and grime very easily. For that reason it becomes liable to breed lots of different kinds of bacteria, mold and mildew.

So how do you keep your grout from incubating bacteria and getting dirty easily? . The answer is just to seal it. You may get it done by hiring the services of a professional or take it as a DIY project . Application of floor tile sealer not only makes the cleaning of tiles easier but gives you healthier environments too.

Tile and grout cleaning is a very laborious and tiring job. The easiest way is to get them cleaned from a professional. If you insist on doing it yourself, here’s how to go ahead with it.

The first step is to rinse the tiles with a mixture of vinegar and water. In most of the cases it may suffice to do just that.  Next, you make a paste of salt and baking soda in water, with the same quantity of the two constituents. That is your grout cleaning mix. Use a soft scrubber or a brush to scrub the grout till its clean. Finally, rinse it with water or a wet sponge and thoroughly dry that  with a towel.

If the tile is stained you can use lemon juice or bleach to restore the white grout color In case the tiles are stained, use lemon juice or bleach to restore the grout to its original color. Be patient; let it soak in for 10 to 15 minutes, then wipe off. Be careful to properly dilute the bleach and never mix the bleach with any other chemicals. Take the necessary precaution of wearing gloves and glasses while handling chemicals.

You can also clean grout using a pressure washer or a steam grout cleaner. It’s a common practice to use steam for indoor cleaning while outdoor cleaning is usually done by using a pressure washer. Both are very effective devices for cleaning tiles and brick grout.
