Driveway Maintenance Starts With Prevention
The phrase “curb appeal” refers to the first impression that your property affords to somebody who is driving past, at first glance. People who work within the real estate world consider this to be a highly important factor in the sales process. First impressions count, as we all know and we tend to make snap judgments. This occurs whether we are meeting somebody or viewing an inanimate object, such as a house, with a view to purchase. As the grounds of your house represent the first impression, you should make sure that your driveway maintenance is kept up.
In the world of real estate it often doesn’t matter what the inside of the property looks like if the outside has already given a bad impression. Often a would-be suitor will turn the other way if he or she does not like the look of the grounds. Whilst a lawn can be cut quite easily the paved areas of your grounds take a little more work, so you should be sure to always keep up with your driveway maintenance.
Many products are available on the market today to assist you with a driveway maintenance problem. If you are looking to remove stains, you might consider the use of dishwashing detergent or regular laundry products. You should sprinkle this on to the stain and let stand for a while, before using hot water to scrub it off. Many people turn to bleach as a solution for a serious cleaning issue, but be careful as this is a powerful chemical and you should not use it anywhere near a drainage system.
A commercially available product called dry sodium phosphate has been specifically designed for concrete stain removal. You might not want to consider this for driveway maintenance, however, as this harsh chemical can leave an impression.
When you consider the use of chemicals or detergents in your driveway maintenance program, you should know that a considerable amount of hard labor will be required. Plenty of scrubbing action will have to be applied to treat existing stains, and you’ll probably have to repeat the process — not for the fainthearted.
For those who do not want to use chemicals, pressure cleaning can be used for driveway maintenance. Most people do not own these items and a trip to the rental company will probably be necessary. You must ensure that you have the correct tools and many advocate hiring a professional to do this for you. Be careful when using this product and never point at any windows or doors or other person, as you can cause injury or damage.
To avoid having to spend considerable time, effort and probably money on your driveway maintenance, you should consider installing an absorbent mat underneath your vehicles. These purpose made items are designed to absorb a host of different liquids, including the oils that typically leak from vehicles. They come in many different sizes and can be cut according to your particular requirements.
If you catch the problem before it takes place, driveway maintenance can be quite simple. The absorbent mat is made from polypropylene and has a base cover that will not leak and allow contents to seep to the surface beneath. These items may be washed and then replaced and will help to keep your driveway stain-free, maintaining your property’s “curb appeal”.
